April Challenge

Apr 01, 2019

Thank you for connecting with me at Fuel for the Soul.

I'm here to talk about challenges and the month of April.

I really need to challenge myself to get outside a little bit more and get some more activity away from my computer. So, I was hoping that maybe we could start an April Challenge together and you can do something that is new to you or something that you've just gotten out of the habit of doing. For me, I'm going to do three days a week, at least 20 minutes of walking. If the weather is bad, I'm going to go to the gym or go out anyway. 😊

I really need that to clear my mind and I've been feeling a little bit cooped up lately, so I want to present that challenge to you. I also thought, maybe my challenge was to read more. I need, I have tons of books, I keep ordering books to read and I don't sit down to read them. Maybe that will be my May challenge. Go to bed maybe ten minutes early or half an hour early and start on one of my books that I have. But, I know, like a lot of you, at the end of the day, you're tired, so I say be kind to yourself in the process.

If you choose three days a week and you get in two, don't worry about it, just do it next week. I used to practice yoga a lot, which is something else I'd like to get back into, and the thing that I loved most about it…. It is always do what you can, don't compare yourself to other people, don't judge yourself. Do what YOU can.  Just being there is an important. Being in the moment and in the here and now.

I like the challenge aspect, because I'm going to be accountable to you and I hope that you will leave me a comment about what your challenge is. We can follow each other and help each other out.

I was thinking of a way to remember the challenges and what’s important when setting a challenge. I came up with the acronym A.C.T. The letter A, is what action will you take. Will that be walking, will that be reading a book, will it be meditating, riding a bike. The letter C stands for commitment. What kind of commitment are you going to make? I want to make this a monthly challenge, so this will be a commitment of 30 days, so within the month, and then how many days a week will you do the action. Start out with something doable. Nothing too overwhelming, because then you'll just feel bad about yourself if you don't complete it.

If you start out at ten minutes and you go for thirty, that's fantastic and that's a boost.  If you're just starting out, I would not do forty five minutes. But, for example if you are an avid runner maybe your goal is to train for a marathon or a half marathon. Make your goals a challenge and attainable. Not crazy unrealistic. You can always add time on to it. Just, be realistic be and kind to yourself. Make a commitment to yourself. I actually want you to write it down.. For me my commitment is, I am committing to walking at least 20 minutes a day, three times a week, for the month of April.

Post that somewhere, remind yourself throughout the day that that's what you're committed to. Check it off in your calendar. You can even message me and if you want accountability. Say yes, I did it.

Remember A.C.T. A is for action. What action you will do. C, your commitment. Make sure you actually write it down..I am committed to______________.  The T is the time commitment. Will you do it 7 days a week? Three days a week? Two days a week? Maybe even one day a week

The point is not to overwhelm yourself with it. To take a step in that direction and that is helping you feel better, helping your mind grow. Be realistic, be consistent and be kind to yourself in the process.

I know there are a lot of busy moms out there, too. If you can really try and set some time aside, it is so important for your wellbeing. You need to take care of yourself, as they say, happy mom, happy wife. That makes all of the difference in the world. So, try to do that for yourself and please don't feel guilty. The guilt does not help anything, and I can pretty much guarantee, that you're kids are not going to remember you taking a half an hour a day to yourself.

Maybe your kids will look back and think, wow, that was great that my mom realized that she needed time to herself. Maybe they'll follow in your footsteps later on in life and realize that self-care is really, really important. Because YOU taught them that.

I have three kids, they are grown now, but, gosh, I should have taken more advantage of that too. I think it would have helped me through different times. I did start to walk quite a bit, at one point, but that was when they were a little bit older. I would just go out and walk and walk and walk and that did wonderful things for me.

I hope you will connect with me and let me know what you're challenges are. I'm excited because I'm excited to fill my soul up with that nice weather out there, get some sunshine in my body, get my body moving and my head in a clear space.

Thank you for visiting Fuel for the Soul.  Please feel free to leave me a message or email me at anytime. I look forward to connecting with you.
